Old Harry Blues captures the dramatic beauty and ever-changing atmosphere of the Dorset coastline, looking from Sandbanks beach towards the iconic Old Harry Rocks headland. Sunlight breaks through the passing clouds, illuminating the chalk cliffs and creating a striking contrast against the distant showers sweeping across the Purbeck hills and out to sea.

The expansive sky dominates the composition, filling two-thirds of the painting with layered tones of blue, white and purple, shifting into softer grey-blue hues where rain showers move across the distant landscape. Below, the sea reflects the changing colours of the sky, with rich blues, greens and violets blending beneath the fresh coastal breeze.

Three distant sailboats travel along the horizon, adding a sense of movement and freedom as they enjoy the lively conditions offshore. Gentle white waves form across the foreground beach, bringing texture and rhythm to the scene.
